The Garden
The Garden
Tucked away behind The Star Inn Pub and Restaurant and its rear terrace complete with summertime outside bar, is The Star’s produce garden, where the step-over apple trees, kitchen produce and herbs are guarded by two giant moongazing hares made for us by Whitby-based sculptor, Emma Stothard. We do not take bookings for garden tables due to the vagaries of the Yorkshire climate; they are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis and those with Restaurant reservations choosing to eat outside may be transferred to garden tables, where available.
The garden was originally designed by Jo Campbell, who went on to work for Raymond Blanc at Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons after a spell at Andrew Fairlie’s garden at Gleneagles.

We do not pretend that the garden allows us to grow all of our own produce, but it does allow for some of the freshest possible herbs and a few vegetables and fruits full of just-picked flavour.
