Stay With Us
Cross House Lodge
Cross House Lodge is The Star’s 13-bedroomed accommodation; perfect for allowing you to savour your 'Star' experience for longer.... Special Breaks are available as well as late booking rates, subject to availability.
The Lodge is unique; the main building was converted from a random assortment of former farm barns, stables and an old wheelhouse. The work was completed around 2004, involving local architects, Bramhall Blenkharn, and incorporating feature staircases by Helmsley-based Bisca.
Rooms are irregular shapes and sizes with varying outlooks and bathroom facilities; some are first floor rooms, accessed via the main building; others ground floor rooms with their own entrances.
The Barn at Cross House Lodge
The new 4-room Barn block, designed by Arkle Boyce Architects was completed in September 2020. The two spacious first floor rooms have good views over the lawns and roll top baths in the bedroom, in addition to the bathrooms with their walk-in showers. Downstairs, the rooms are family-friendly flexible rooms; Barn 2 with purpose-built bunk beds suitable for smaller children and Barn 1 available as a double, twin or even a triple.
Cross House Lodge has a spacious terrace; the perfect place to enjoy a summer al fresco breakfast or a late afternoon drink from the Lodge Bar. On cooler days, choose your cosy seat near the double-sided wood burning stove in the Lounge with its airy barn-style ceiling.
The Rooms in the main building are numbered, One to Three, Five to Six and Nine. Seven and Eight are located in their own separate annexe and the new Barn Block rooms are numbered Barn One, Two, Three and Four. All our room rates are for double occupancy and include breakfast.
Check-in time is 3pm and check-out by 11am on the following morning. All rooms have Roberts radios, televisions with Freeview channels, hairdryers, towels and bathrobes, bath/shower gels, shampoo and body lotion, coffee and tea making facilities and a few snacks. An ironing board and iron is available on request, as are alternative duvets and pillows for those with feather allergies.

Many of our Rooms have particular features, such as the roll-top baths within the bedrooms of Rooms One, Barn Three and Barn Four and the piano of Room Eight. After nearly two decades, many of our regular visitors have their own favourite, whether tucked away in a cosy corner – or with their own little garden area, such as Room Six.
Arguably our most spacious rooms are Five and Nine. Five, the one with the small(coverable) pool table is light and airy, and a popular bridal suite, whilst Nine, the former Corner Shop, has its own small sitting area with lots of books and the warm glow of a fire.
Well-behaved canine visitors can choose between Rooms Six, Seven or Eight, but must keep their distance from our (very) free-range chickens.
We are now able to take combined room and restaurant reservations online and to guarantee your booking subject to a deposit. Group bookings are still processed by our reservations team by telephone or email. Our Special Breaks are also bookable online; why not take a look at the details before proceeding to the booking link?
Exploring the Environs
The Star Inn is located in Harome, a chocolate box-pretty rural village, complete with its own duckpond and cricket team, on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors, near Helmsley. The Star’s Pub is the village ‘local’, frequented by birthday celebrants drinking from their personalised tankards to be returned to their permanent hooks in the Bar and, at Christmastime, by thirsty churchgoers following the St Saviour’s Carol Service, all alongside visitors from all over the world seeking out this quintessential Yorkshire Inn.
Whilst it might appear a little off the beaten track, Harome is just a couple of car-minutes from the bustling market town of Helmsley, with Rievaulx Abbey and Terraces, Nunnington Hall, Castle Howard and Malton, all close by. Walkers and cyclists are spoilt for choice; Whitby and the North Sea Coast are a picturesque day out travelling over the heather-covered Moors.
Weddings
With Michelin Star accreditation testament to its consistently high quality of cooking, The Star Inn at Harome’s rustic lodge is the foodie first choice location for intimate weddings and celebrations of all kinds.
An ‘Exclusively Yours’ package offers you a ‘Carte Blanche’ private dining experience taken from the minds and palates of our brigade of Michelin-starred Chefs, inspired by the season, the surrounding countryside and, of course, the fabulous fish and seafood from the depths of Andrew Pern’s hometown port, Whitby.
Where all of our Lodge rooms are booked by a single Group, we can offer exclusive use of the Lodge facilities and private dining in our Wheelhouse, which is also licensed for civil ceremonies of all kinds, including weddings.
