Perns of Helmsley Meats, Poultry & Game
Meats
Andrew Leckenby continues to supply his excellent beef and
lamb from his family-run farm situated at Middle Baxton just outside Helmsley. Whilst, all our pork is reared locally in North Yorkshire coming from Richard Horner’s, in the village of Kilburn, nestled at the bottom of Sutton Bank.
Poultry
Our poultry all comes from local suppliers, including free-range chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys from the very well-known “Loose Birds Ltd” of Harome, which has gained industry awards and praise from the trade and public alike.
The Game
‘Loose Birds’ owner Paul Talling is also the main supplier of the highest quality furred and feathered game throughout the season, sourcing from local shoots and Estates. Roe and Fallow Deer, Pheasant, Partridge, Grouse, and Mallard are always available during the autumn and winter months, either from the counter or shot to order!!
Bangers & Bacon
All sausages are homemade in-house and range from Traditional Breakfast to local Venison and Juniper, with seasonal specialities changing throughout the year. We cure most of our Bacon, Gammon and Hams which are available cooked or raw.
We also make our own Black Pudding and Burgers.
The Specialities
Other products are available via The Star Inn suppliers such as Calves Liver, Foie Gras, Squab Pigeon, Quail and other rare breed meats from local farmers. With a little notice most items including fish and shellfish can be obtained.
